Third trimester of pregnancy

Weeks 27-32 - gestational age (fetal age - weeks 25-30):

The fetus really fills up over the next few weeks, accumulating fat on the body, reaching about 40-45 cm in length and weighing about 1800-1900 grams by the 32nd week. The lungs are not yet fully mature, but some rhythmic breathing movements are already occurring. The bones are fully developed but still soft and pliable. The fetus stores its own calcium, iron and phosphorus. The eyelids open after closing, starting at the end of the first trimester.

Weeks 33-36 - gestational age (fetal age - weeks 31-34):

This is around the time the fetus descends into the head-down position to prepare for birth. The fetus begins to gain weight faster. Lanugo hairs will disappear from the skin, becoming less red and wrinkled. Currently, the size of the fetus is from 45 to 50 cm, and the weight is from 2.5 to 3 kg.

Weeks 37-40 - gestational age (fetal age - weeks 35-38):

At 38 weeks, the fetus is considered full-term and ready to go at any time. As your baby grows, you may notice changes in fetal movements. If you notice a decrease in fetal movement, be sure to discuss this with your doctor. The nails have become long and will need to be trimmed shortly after birth. Small thoracic buds are present in both sexes. The mother provides the fetus with antibodies that help protect it from disease. All organs are developed, the lungs mature before the day of birth. The fruit is 50 to 55 cm long and weighs 3 to 4.5 kg.
