Parenting is not what you expected?

Month 10, week 3

Parenthood is not always what we expected. It's exhausting, frustrating, confusing, guilt-ridden, and confusing.

If you are upset:

  • Be realistic. Don't expect perfection from yourself, your spouse, your child, or your home.
  • Make some time for yourself. Even super mom and super dad need a few minutes from time to time. Set aside at least one hour each week for yourself; more if you can.
  • Talk to another mom or dad about your stress. You will probably find that you are not alone!
  • Try stretching, yoga and/or any other exercise to relieve tension and find time for yourself.
  • If you are angry and think you are harming your child or yourself, seek professional help immediately.

Your child's development this week

Your child will learn what things are and what they are for. Of course, they still put everything in their mouths, but they also begin to realize that objects have names and purposes and can be found if hidden from them.

Look for signs of their growing awareness:

  • Show them the picture books and see if they look at the picture correctly when you say "cat", "dog" or "cow".
  • Do the same at home. Does he look or point at his dad or his older sister when you say his name? Do they respond to their name? Do they use “no” gestures and like to wave their hands?
  • See what they do with common household tools. Do they pretend to comb their hair with your comb or hold the phone to their ear?
  • Clap enthusiastically every time they show you their new skills! Promotion goes a long way!

If you suspect that your child is late for important milestones, what should you do?

  • Check with your pediatrician. Often they assure you that everything is going according to plan. All children develop at their own pace, and some reach certain milestones earlier than others.
  • Act quickly. If there is a health problem, early intervention can often go a long way.
  • If your child appears to be late, ask your pediatrician what resources are available where you live to assess your child.

If a delay is identified, find support groups in your area and online for parents of children with similar issues.

10th month, 3rd week tips

  • Do your child's feet feel flat? Do not worry. Their arch is just hidden under that cute soft baby fat. It will appear in a few years.
  • At this point, your child may try to help you dress him by putting his hands in the sleeves. Give them a chance to try out their new skills before you finish the job.
  • If your child cannot stand up when supported, does not look for hidden objects, does not point fingers or use gestures, contact the pediatrician for evaluation.
  • Turn off the TV when your child is in the room. Experts advise against spending time in front of a baby screen. The interactive game is much better.
  • No need to spend money on expensive toys. They have not been proven to make kids smarter. Rolls of paper towels, empty boxes, and egg cartons can be just as good for your child.
  • One-piece blankets are always safer for your baby than a regular blanket.
  • At this age, children still experience separation anxiety. As a result, your child may be more attached and have nocturnal awakenings.
