Everyone loves the smell of a clean baby!

Once your baby's umbilical cord has fallen off and the circumcision (if it's a boy) and belly button have healed, it's time for your baby to take their first bath. Washing a slippery, soapy baby is not easy. You will need the right equipment to make swimming safe and hassle-free.

Your child will not need a bath every day. Enough two or three times a week. Between baths, you can use a washcloth to clean your baby's face, ears, and bottom.

Include these items on your baby bath shopping list.

  • Infant bathtub
  • Foam pad tub insert
  • Gentle, unscented baby soap
  • Unscented moisturizer
  • Tear-free shampoo
  • 4 to 6 cotton washcloths
  • 4 terry cloth bath towels
  • Hooded towel
  • Soft hair brush
  • Comb
  • Rinsing cup

In an ideal world, bathing is followed by bedtime. You have several options for creating a safe and comfortable place for your child to sleep. When you have a newborn, light cleaning is essential. Lay out these basics on your crib mattress before bed:

  • Waterproof mattress pad (have 2-4)
  • Quilted mattress pad
  • Fitted crib sheet (have at least 2)
  • Waterproof sheet savers with ties or snaps (have 2-4)

If your child has made a mess overnight, you can change the sheet quickly and easily.

Please note which items are not on this list. You don't need bumpers, blankets, pillows or soft toys in your crib. They are dangerous because they increase the risk of suffocation.

Wrap your baby warm enough in a cozy changing blanket so they don't need to be covered.
